Driver Negligence Led to Fatal Megabus Crash

According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, the accident that occurred on September 11 was not the first time that a Megabus was lost en route from Philly to Toronto. In fact, it happened 4 other times in the past couple of months. Unfortunately on the 11th, the driver, John Tomaszewski, did not call 911 or the bus company dispatch, and that negligence contributed to a crash that killed 4 and injured many others.

This tragic bus accident may have been prevented if the driver checked with the bus dispatch, was not distracted by looking at his GPS system, and had sufficient training.

Drivers should receive a certain number of hours of classroom training, as well as practice their routes.

If the bus driver is found to be at fault for this accident, both he and his employer, the Megabus (and its parent company, COACH USA) could be held liable for the victims’ critical injuries. The injured passengers as well as family members of the passengers who were wrongfully killed would be well advised to obtain an experienced bus crash attorney. They would be able to look into the details of the collision, especially if the bus driver may have been inexperienced and did not have the proper amount of training.
